摘要: Inversion tectonics represent a key process in many orogens worldwide. The related mechanisms of fault reactivation and the effects an articulated preshortening setting on thrust fold development are still challenging questions. Modes geometries inversion have been object several analogue models. In this work, we analyzed influence high-angle preexisting discontinuity thrusts using sandbox modeling. model geometry is based architecture major faults Central-Northern Apennines Italy, where differently oriented Mesozoic–Cenozoic inherited extensional structures clearly detectable display contrasting styles positive tectonics. Quartz-sand material adopted to sedimentary successions, glass microbeads rocks. segmented structure composed two segments with same dip (∼60°): one oblique another orthogonal shortening direction. Our results show that different can coexist obliquity angle between direction leading factor controlling degree inversion: segment exhibits complete reactivation, whereas along segment, shortcut prevalent mechanism. element, moreover, represents cross-strike guides localization curved thrusts, compartmentalizing deformation. findings be applied fold-and-thrust belts characterized by presence discontinuities.
