Employment around first birth in two adverse institutional settings: Evidence from Italy and Poland

摘要: Abstract This paper analyses women’s employment behaviour around first birth in Italy and Poland. These two countries have much common as far their cultural institutional frameworks are concerned. However, they also display key differences that allow us to better investigate how the country-specific factors mediate birth. Our findings reveal substantial across educational groups between countries. We conclude conditions for combining work family, although important, not only determinants of fertility decisions, other highly influential. Diese beiden Lander haben hinsichtlich kulturellen Rahmenbedingungen viel gemeinsam. Sie weisen jedoch auch zentrale Unterschiede auf, die es uns erlauben, genauer zu untersuchen wie landerspezifischen Faktoren Erstgeburt beeinflussen. Unsere zeigen, dass substanzielle Verhalten uber Bildungsgruppen hinweg zwischen den Landern bestehen. Wir kommen dem Schluss, Bedingungen Vereinbarkeit Arbeit Familie zwar wichtig, aber nicht einzigen Determinanten fur Entscheidungen Fertilitat sind.
