Women's self-employment in Poland: a strategy for combining work and childcare?

摘要: The paper investigates whether self-employment, which generally offers greater flexibility with respect to the hours and place of work, is chosen by women in order achieve a better balance between paid work family. empirical research on this topic has provided conflicting evidence. shortcomings previous studies are discussed accounted for. First, we investigate women's self-employment choices relationship childbearing childrearing, apply qualitative methodology examine motives that trigger these decisions. Second, quantitative part study, direction analyzing encourages childbearing, or motherhood leads choose more flexible form employment. Finally, account for selection mothers into group self-employed due time-constant unobserved characteristics. Our results show does not affect fertility decisions, but it can become an attractive option after they have children because offers. Nevertheless, seem be preferred W&S contracts. Instead, seen as alternative being jobless "bad job" (i.e., one inflexible, stressful, demanding).
