摘要: Uterine leiomyomas, or fibroids, are a major cause of abnormal uterine bleeding in women. These benign tumours develop during the reproductive years and their growth has been shown to be dependent on ovarian steroid hormones oestradiol progesterone. The promoting effects these appear mediated through local production specific factors. Traditional treatment for leiomyomas surgical removal either hysterectomy myomectomy. Newer techniques, such as hysteroscopic endometrial ablation, arterial embolization, now being tested effective but less invasive methods treatment. Non-surgical primarily use gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonists which suppress circulating progesterone levels by shutting down pituitary-ovarian axis. suppression results significant fibroid shrinkage, long-term compounds is not recommended because patients suffer bone loss. New antisteroidal compounds, antiprogestin RU 486 selective oestrogen-receptor modulator raloxifene, possible therapeutic agents fibroids.
