Gap junction mediated signaling between satellite glia and neurons in trigeminal ganglia

摘要: Peripheral sensory ganglia contain the somata of neurons mediating mechanical, thermal, and painful sensations from somatic, visceral, oro-facial organs. Each neuronal cell body is closely surrounded by satellite glial cells (SGCs) that have properties functions similar to those central astrocytes, including expression gap junction proteins functional dye coupling. As shown in other pain models, after systemic induction intra-peritoneal injection lipopolysaccharide, coupling among SGCs intact trigeminal ganglion was enhanced. Moreover, neuron-neuron neuron-SGC also detected. To verify presence junction-mediated between neurons, we performed dual whole patch clamp recordings both freshly isolated short term cultured pairs dissociated mouse ganglia. Bidirectional mediated electrical responses were frequently recorded SGCs, SGCs. Polarization SGC altered excitability, providing evidence interactions glia within may contribute integration peripheral responses, modulation coordinaton activity.
