摘要: Objectives: The present study generated baseline data for total homocysteine (tHcy) in elderly Caribbeans of Hispanic ancestry, residing Venezuela, their country origin. Design and methods: 2106 participants the Maracaibo Aging Study (MAS), older than 55 years, underwent standardized clinical laboratory assessments, including measurement plasma tHcy levels, folate, vitamin B12 fasting samples. Results: concentration healthy, normative group ranged from 4.1 to 31.8 μmol/L, with a median 11.5±4.7 μmol/L. level increased age, was significantly higher men women, exhibited inverse correlations folate B12. Conclusions: levels MAS were generally previously reported community-dwelling populations other countries. centile curves can be used disease risk analysis this population, possibly Caribbean.
