Situational ethics across borders: A multicultural examination

摘要: Managers throughout the world regularly face ethical dilemmas that have important, and perhaps complex, professional personal implications. Further, societal consequences of decisions made can be far-reaching. In this study, 210 financial services managers from Australia, Chile, Ecuador United States were queried about their beliefs when faced with four diverse dilemmas. addition, situational context was altered so respondent viewed each dilemma a top management position economic hardship. Results suggest complex interaction situation, culture issue individuals make judgments. Specifically, Chileans found to different sex discrimination child labor compared colleagues other three nations. Australians also disagreed on bribery dilemma. Anglo more likely than Latin American change responses situation altered. For multinational firms interested in maintaining healthy climates, findings culturally contingent guidelines, or policies adapted local customs, must considered. remain aware issues related specific situations, both internal external, would cause subordinates alter moral judgment.
