摘要: Floral nectaries are an interesting example of a convergent trait in flowering plants, and associated with the diversification numerous angiosperm lineages, including adaptive radiation New World Aquilegia species. However, we know very little as to what genes contribute nectary development evolution, particularly noncore eudicot taxa. We analyzed expression patterns used RNAi-based methods investigate functions homologs from STYLISH (STY) family nectar spur Aquilegia coerulea. found that AqSTY1 exhibits concentrated presumptive growing tip, triple gene silencing three STY-like revealed they function style development. Strong STY was also detected nectary-bearing petals Delphinium Epimedium. Our results suggest novel recruitment control is likely have occurred before Ranunculaceae Berberidaceae. To date, Ranunculales only alternative loci for providing critical data point understanding evolutionary origin developmental basis nectaries.
