摘要: Abstract Upwelling events off the Southwest coast of Portugal can trigger phytoplankton blooms that are important for fisheries and aquaculture sectors in this region. However, climate change scenarios forecast fluctuations intensity frequency upwelling events, thereby potentially impacting these sectors. Shifts community were analysed from end 2008 until beginning 2012 by examining bio-optical properties water column, namely absorption coefficients phytoplankton, non-algal particles coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM). The was assessed microscopy, with counts an inverted microscope, chemotaxonomic methodologies, using pigment concentrations determined High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Results both microscopy methods showed a shift diatom dominance related to bloom conditions matching small flagellate no-bloom relaxation upwelling. During conditions, light increased markedly, while CDOM remained relatively constant. dynamics study area attributed coastal influences rather than origin. Changes biomass consequent alterations regimes area. Bio-optical parameters contribute environmental monitoring oceanic waters, which case European Union, involves implementation Water Framework, Marine Strategy Framework Spatial Planning Directives.
