摘要: Osteopathy represents a prominent cause of morbidity in patients with beta-thalassemia major (TM) and manifests as osteopenia/osteoporosis. Biochemical turnover markers (BTMs) are considered useful, non-invasive tool for the clinical follow-up osteoporotic patients; they can provide dynamic view remodeling process give information on metabolic activity bone tissue well pathogenesis loss. The amino-terminal pro-peptide type I procollagen (P1NP) is recently introduced marker that most sensitive index formation. Although demonstrated several categories disease, there little usefulness this formation thalassemic patients. We evaluated P1NP levels 53 adult b-thalassemia (21 males 32 females, mean age 34.5 ± 5.7, range 22-46 years) associated osteopathy. investigated correlation between condition examined by dual X-ray photon absorptiometry BTMs expressing resorption mineralization (carboxyterminal collagen cross-linked (CTX) terminal regions osteocalcin, respectively). serum were correlated CTX (r=0.545, p<0.001); results unchanged when osteopenic subgroups, separately. No was neither OC (r=0.17, p=ns), nor (r=0.11, p=ns). among P1NP/CTX ratio age, or densitometric values no difference found same (0.19 0.16) (0.15 0.14) Similar obtained OC/CTX ratio, it not values. This first report circulating TM-associated osteoporosis. assays show good precision low analytical CV, and, compared to other markers, acceptably reflect processes promptly respond antiosteoporotic treatments. trust be useful assessment treatment efficacy overcome pitfalls due wide variability normal create difficulty pinpointing individual patient's response.
