摘要: Abstract Aerosol particles exist in the vicinity of extremely cold polar summer mesopause and can be visually observed form noctilucent clouds ( Jesse (1885) Met. Zeit. 2, 311–312). Being embedded into plasma D-region, these become charged by means diffusion lead to huge VHF radar echoes known as Polar Mesospheric Summer Echoes Ecklund Balsley (1981) J. Geophys. Res. 86, 7775–7780). The diffusional charging submicron has been treated detail Natanson (1960, Sov. Phys. Tech. 5, 538–551) with some modifications Fuchs (1963 , Pura. Appl. 56, 185–193). Previous model investigations mesospheric aerosol (e.g., Rapp Lubken (1999) Earth Planets Space 51, 799–807) applied analytical approximations rigorous theory which (1960) had derived for case that mean free path ions, λ, is much larger than radius particles, rA. This conditions satisfied around where λ∼1 cm r A ⩽100 nm Thomas Mc Kay (1985) Planet. Sci. 33 1209–1244). aim this note investigate applicability Natanson's models particles.
