摘要: Abstract. Siberian permafrost contains a globally significant pool of organic carbon (OC) that is vulnerable to enhanced warming and subsequent release into the contemporary cycle. OC by both fluvial coastal erosion has been reported in region, but behaviour this material Arctic Ocean insufficiently understood. The balance between deposition degradation on East Shelf (ESAS) influences climate–carbon cycle feedback area. In study we couple measurements glycerol dialkyl tetraethers (GDGTs) with bulk geochemical observations improve knowledge sources ESAS, specific biomarkers shelf delivery removal different pools. Branched GDGT (brGDGT) concentrations were highest close river mouths, yet low "ice complex" deposits, supporting recent brGDGTs are mostly delivered erosion, may be tracer for complex sedimentary environments. BrGDGT branched isoprenoidal tetraether (BIT) index reduced quickly offshore, demonstrating rapid reduction influence. Stable isotope ratios changed at rate BIT index, suggesting not only sourced from also sediments delivers substantial quantities Ocean. A model export fluvial, marine able recreate biomarker provide estimates influence across whole shelf. shows 43 % 87 mineral sediment rivers deliver 72 brGDGTs, indicating can used as proxy river-derived sediment.
