A new burnetiamorph (Therapsida: Biarmosuchia) from the Lower Beaufort Group of South Africa

摘要: The basal clade Burnetiamorpha is known from only two specimens representing genera, Proburnetia the Severodvinskian horizon of Vyatka River Basin in Kotelnich district Russia, and Burnetia Dicynodon Assemblage Zone Beaufort Group South Africa. Both genera are Late Tatarian (Late Permian) age. This paper describes cranial morphology a new genus burnetiamorph, Bullacephalus, Permian Tapinocephalus It relatively complete skull lower jaw best preserved burnetiamorph yet discovered. Apart being oldest member clade, Bullacephalus also morphologically least derived provides evidence on phylogeny this poorly understood group therapsids.
