摘要: Enhancements of the fluxes protons having energies several hundred keV are commonly observed at synchronous orbit and in magnetotail during geomagnetically active periods. In many cases these flux enhancements have been shown to be closely associated with individual magnetospheric substorms. Using energetic proton data (E/sub p/>0.3 MeV) orbiting satellites from Vela magnetotail, we find that timing relative substorm onsets recoveries (derived ground magnetic records) plasma sheet thinnings (measured probes on Imp 7, 8, satellites) can understood terms a neutral line model substorms which impulsively accelerated, possibly near line(s), brief period onset. The energized particles subsequently appear stream both sunward antisunward as discrete particle bunches those flowing inner magnetosphere 'drift echoes' seen single short, intense 'impulsive' bursts. more rapid-rise slow-decay type occur recovery phase are, present model, attributed envelopmentmore » observing satellite by recovering (i.e., expanding) into leaked previously injected outer radiation zone.
