摘要: Skeletal banding has been found in the deep-water scleractinian coral Desmophyllum cristagalli, an important animal studies of climate change. This pattern sheds light on skeletogenesis and suggests methods by which record change contained within skeletons may be interpreted. A central wall built trabeculae forms interior septa rings theca. Lamellae form a sheath over trabecular frame, showing continuity from thecal edge to septum. bands are added tissue layer, overlaps seals internal upper portion outer Truncated inner theca indicate skeletal deposition dissolution dependent presence or absence live layer. long-term will difficult collect D. cristagalli since lamellae less than 10 μm thick band position is unpredictable. Density shallow-water long recognized as valuable paleo-oceanographic tool, corals now being used reconstruct deep-ocean environments. Pattern growth must carefully considered if proxy recorders.
