摘要: Carotenoids are photoprotective pigments present in many photosynthetic and nonphotosynthetic organisms. The desaturation of phytoene into phytofluene is an early step the biosynthetic pathway that bacterium Rhodobacter capsulatus mediated by product crtI gene. Here we report sequence this gene identification CrtI as a membrane protein approximate Mr 60,000. Mutant strains with 5-fold lower or 10-fold higher levels respect to wild type have only small differences their carotenoid content, indicating cellular concentration not limiting factor biosynthesis. However, correlation was found between formation antenna system.
