摘要: Background:  Accurate diagnosis of musculoskeletal tumours is important for successful treatment. Studies have reported a high risk complications following open biopsy and advocated core as safer alternative; however, accuracy may be reduced with the smaller sample. The aims this study were to determine incisional biopsy, (overall those that affected subsequent management) including local recurrence need further surgery. Methods:  This was retrospective audit 135 consecutive biopsies soft tissue tumours. complications, changes surgical management direct result recorded all cases. determined by comparing histology final 88 cases proceeded definitive resection. Results:  There two attributable (complication rate 1.5%). No complication management. three where incorrectly benign condition when it malignant (benign versus 96%). no initially being malignant. correct in 72 excised specimens (accuracy 82%). false positive 0%, sensitivity 93%, specificity 100% predictor value 100%. Discussion:  Open remains safe accurate method obtaining principles are adhered to.
