'That decision really was mine…'. Insider perspectives on health care controversies about intersex/diverse sex development.

摘要: After 20 years of debate on intersex care, there has been a slight movement away from the paradigm 'optimal gender' including early genital modification to conform predicted gender identity towards 'full consent' provision full information about risks, benefits and alternatives interventions postponement irreversible minors too young give informed consent. However, controversy continues. Against this background, aim study was analyse core aspects current debates in care. Focus placed controversies surgery external genitalia; gonadectomies; expressed wishes patients under age consent; how deal with within family. Eight guideline-based interviews were conducted two people intersex/diverse sex development conditions who had subjected surgery, parents children an intersex/dsd condition, medical doctors, psychologists. Data analysed thematically. Findings indicate that while influenced actions debate, persons involved held differing opinions policy can or should be achieved. In addition, data illustrated concepts such as normalcy, sexuality are relevant when dealing issues.
