摘要: This work reviews the limnology of largest multi-use reservoir in NE Brazil, Castanhao Reservoir Ceara State, during 5 years an extended drought when reservoir's volume decreased from 88% to about 30%. Major physical and chemical parameters water column, phytoplankton community, trophic state sediment geochemistry were monitored, as well impact extensive aquaculture. Water quality full was maintained due hydrodynamics, which transport nutrients hypolimnion a stratified rendering oligotrophic reservoir, notwithstanding large nutrient inputs aquaculture irrigated agriculture. However, with extension period, reduced, decreasing depth leading breaking thermocline wind forcing, mixing entire column. increased turbidity, availability primary productivity, also changed functional groups. As result, at end monitoring attained its lowest volume, became eutrophic. Under scenario climate change, where annual precipitation is decreasing, human uses reservoirs semiarid should be very restricted maintain proper for use.
