Differences in knowledge of hepatitis B among Vietnamese, African-American, Hispanic, and white adolescents in Worcester, Massachusetts.

摘要: Objective. To assess the level of knowledge about hepatitis B Vietnamese adolescents, a group at high risk for B, and compare it to adolescents other races ethnicities. Methods. A sample 2816 was surveyed in 1993 2 middle schools Worcester, Massachusetts, using self-administered multilingual questionnaire. Results. Knowledge low overall. respondents were more likely than students know that affects liver (35.6% vs 22.6%). However, they much less correctly identify sex with an infected person as factor infection (13.7% 32.8%). Independent predictors this were: white race; older age; attending school versus school; having been taught knowing definition B; reporting better grades; family member being highly acculturated. Conclusions. Adolescent study. Attention should be directed providing health education on particularly Vietnamese. Health care providers, community educators, others engaged effort control eradicate sensitive unique educational cultural needs high-risk southeast Asian adolescent populations.
