摘要: Environmental context Diatoms, unicellular algae that live suspended in the water column, can undergo periods of rapid growth, called blooms. When these algal blooms die, organic compounds including polyunsaturated aldehydes are released to surrounding with currently unknown ecological effects. Here we demonstrate temperature differentially affects persistence three major produced by diatoms, and quantify removal rates from seawater compounds. Abstract Polyunsaturated (PUAs) volatile commonly into environment different fresh phytoplankton species. Diatoms among main producers metabolites seawater. The release is known be wound-activated as a consequence predation or cell lysis. Hence, interaction species produce PUAs other marine organisms being thoroughly investigated. However, stability seaweater once they their under environmental conditions have never been quantified. In this work, reveal an important effect on dissolved 2E,4E/Z-decadienal (DECA), 2E,4E/Z-octadienal (OCTA) 2E,4E/Z-heptadienal (HEPTA) at nanomolar scale. These were more persistent 10°C than either 15 20°C. Half lives OCTA HEPTA reduced 200h 80h 15°C 60h addition, DECA was consistently temperatures assayed. This dependence could determine differential equivalent PUA concentrations diversity plankton community’s structure depths, seasons latitudes.
