摘要: The characteristics of photonic probes that give them the potential to measure pulsed electromagnetic fields more accurately than has been possible in past are discussed. An overview system design is presented with particular emphasis on transfer functions appropriate antennas and electrooptic modulators. Noise sources which limit sensitivity low signals discussed used determine noise equivalent field (NEF). some developed by US National Institute Standards Technology (NIST) presented. NEFs these about 0.1 V-m/sup -1/-Hz/sup -1/2/ 10/sup 3/ times theoretical limits. For a 1-Hz bandwidth their dynamic ranges order 70 dB. Optical guided wave technology holds considerable promise for fabricating modulators wide variety operating parameters can improve probe performance extend applications wider region spectrum. >
