Microstructure and Corrosion Aspects of Dissimilar Joints of Zircaloy-4 and 304L Stainless Steel

摘要: In this study, diffusion bonding is used to join rods of Zircaloy-4 with stainless steel 304L. The microstructure the interface dissimilar joints was characterized by SEM-EDS and x-ray diffraction (XRD). It consists three distinct layers, each separately localized in modified (Zy-4) matrix. XRD patterns indicate presence intermetallics diffusion-bonded joints. Joint corrosion evaluated potentiodynamic polarization some aspects were discussed according mixed potential theory. results a local galvanic effect. SEM examination corroded indicates preferential around Zy-4/SS304L interface, probably due residual stresses intermetallic compounds generated during process at high temperature.
