Shark parasites as bio-indicators of metals in two South African embayments

摘要: Concentrations of metals in the tissues sharks Callorhinchus capensis, Rhinobatos annulatus and blochii collected False Bay Saldanha Bay, South Africa, 2013 were investigated. Metal concentrations tissue parasites Gyrocotyle plana infecting spiral intestine C. capensis Proleptus obtusus stomach R. also analysed. G. showed accumulation arsenic (4073.52±5561.54 μg/g), manganese (522.16±578.21 lead (64.87±101.7 titanium (1821.42±1348.16 μg/g) zinc (12439.57±9743.60 μg/g). These results when compared to baseline values, that are orders magnitude higher than those surrounding environment 2 6 times concentration host's tissues. show usefulness marine endoparasites as early warning indicators heavy metal pollution.
