摘要: This paper examines conditions that have variously been called sensory integration disorder, processing and modulation disorder (SID/SPD/SMD). As these lack readily consistently agreed-upon operational definitions, there has confusion as to how disorders are conceptualized. Rather than addressing various diagnostic controversies, we will instead focus upon explaining the symptoms believed characterize disorders. First, clarify overall context within which view symptoms, summarize a paradigm of adaptation characterized by continuous sensorimotor interaction with environment. Next, review dual-tiered, integrated model brain function in order establish neuroanatomic underpinnings conceptualize symptom presentations. Generally accepted functions neocortex, basal ganglia, cerebellum described illustrate interactions between regions generate both adaptive pathological behaviors. We then examine SID/SPD/SMD this interactive relation their impact development inhibitory control, working memory, academic skill development, behavioral automation. present likely etiologies for not only they drive neurodevelopmental pathologies but also can be understood variations neural networks.
