Gender and disability among older adults in north and South India: differences associated with coresidence and marriage.

摘要: Women in most settings are morelikely than men to experience as well reportpoor health and functional disabilities. Studies the economically advanced countries(as US) have also shown an associationbetween gender, marital status anddisability. However, there is very littleinformation about gender differentials indisability among elderly developingcountries, especially those South Asia. Also, little known status, coresidencewith sons, disability older adults inthese countries. This study uses data from National FamilyHealth Survey conducted India 1991–1992 toassess disparities functionalhealth persons 55 years tocompare situation northern andsouthern parts of country. Using logisticregression analysis, this examines therelation between livingarrangements olderadults states Uttar Pradesh andHaryana north Kerala Tamil Naduin south. The results confirm a female disadvantage inphysical impairments states,although these differences not significantin Marital sons associated with andthese associations show interestinginteractions.
