摘要: Habitat loss and fragmentation represent the most serious extinction threats for many species have been demonstrated to be especially detrimental mammals. Particularly, highly specialized with low dispersal abilities will encounter a high risk of in fragmented landscapes. Here we studied edible dormouse (Glis glis), small arboreal mammal that is distributed throughout Central Europe, where forests are mostly at different spatial scales. The aim this study was investigate effect habitat on genetic population structures using example populations inhabiting forest fragments south western Germany. We genotyped 380 adult individuals captured between 2001 2009 four one large continuous 14 species-specific microsatellites. hypothesised, patches lower diversity more isolated compared living forests. In accordance our expectations found dormice were from each other. Furthermore, their structure unstable over period than forest. Even though could not detect variability within fragments, strong isolation an overall mate close relatives might precursors reduced onset inbreeding depression. Results highlight connectivity among can already strongly hampered before erosion becomes evident.
