Magnetopause structure during the magnetic storm of September 24, 1961

摘要: Explorer-12 magnetic-field observations of the magnetopause current layer were made on inbound pass September 24, 1961, which occurred during main phase a moderately strong magnetic storm. The satellite was located near subsolar point. accuracy data reported here has been increased by use an improved filtering procedure. Five penetrations observed in time period about 20 min and for each these used to calculate vector normal layer, component along that vector, polarization layer. Normal components significantly different from zero obtained, it is suggested this general are consistent with so-called open magnetosphere model. In fact, appears first last boundary may have opposite sides of, but very near, X-type null line, front side direction as well sense rotation tangential found be two boundaries.
