摘要: Abstract Objective WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA with other development partners have supported African Ministries of Health to institutionalize maternal death review (MDR) since 2003. To evaluate the program, its status, lessons learned, challenges success were reviewed in 2007. Methods A standard self-administered questionnaire was sent 46 Sub-Saharan countries May Completed questionnaires returned by e-mail, processed, analyzed. Fifteen stated that facility-based main method selected for conducting reviews causes death. Fourteen (47%) reported guidelines had developed 12 (40%) implemented guidelines. Implementation led local policy changes improvement quality health services several Ten 15 which analysis conducted recommendations at least facility level. Conclusion Although use increasing countries, effective coverage still low. The institutionalization requires political commitment, legal administrative back-up, financial support, capacity development, simplified reporting forms procedures, coordinated support partners, involvement professional bodies, regular supportive follow-up.
