摘要: Despite the importance of altruism in an individual's participation genetic counseling and testing, little research has explored change altruistic motivations to test over time. This study analyzed after testing among individuals (N = 120) at elevated risk for BRCA1/2 mutations. The perceived benefits were assessed utilized a mixed-methods, repeated measures design three time points: pre-counseling, post-genetic along with transcripts sessions. Qualitative analysis using immersion/crystallization method resulted six common testing: cancer prevention, awareness, family's survival, relief from anxiety, science, future planning. Perceived then coded into categories according Hamilton's kin selection theory: motivation, personal motivation mutual benefit. At those history (p = 0.003) one or more children (p = 0.013), significantly likely cite test. Altruistic increased post-counseling (p = 0.01) but declined post-testing (p < 0.001). Labov's narrative further elucidated context motivations. possibility positive result might have led testing. Genetic may help family be prime opportunity discuss other forms altruism.
