摘要: Breast-feeding reduces the risk of enteric bacterial infections in newborns part because human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), complex glycans that are present milk, but not infant formula. Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) attaching/effacing pathogens cause serious diarrheal illness with potentially high mortality infants. We isolated HMOs from pooled and found they significantly reduce EPEC attachment to cultured epithelial cells. In suckling mice, administration reduced colonization compared untreated controls.
