摘要: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery has been performed in over 75,000 people worldwide, and shown to be an effective treatment for Parkinson's disease, tremor, dystonia, epilepsy, depression, Tourette's syndrome, obsessive compulsive disorder. We review current emerging evidence the role of DBS management a range neurological psychiatric conditions, discuss technical practical aspects performing surgery. In future, evolution technology may depend on several key areas, including better scientific understanding its underlying mechanism action, advances high-spatial resolution imaging development novel electrophysiological neurotransmitter microsensor systems. Such developments could form basis intelligent closed-loop system with feedback-guided neuromodulation optimize both electrode placement therapeutic efficacy.
