摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the functional capacities of fish skeletal structures and tissues, as those have been determined by measurement mechanical properties under life‐like loading conditions. The workings fishes approached in a two-pronged framework, with (1) muscle engine motion force (2) water external source resistance purchase. interaction certainly lays foundation for behaviors diverse swimming, breathing, feeding, but between them is only part picture. Understanding actors requires study third factor: skeleton. defines skeleton broadly to include connective tissues such tendon, ligament, cartilage, bone that large component extracellular collagen fibers. By measuring tissue structures, one can begin modeling few species understanding integrated function muscle, water, Even though systems are complicated, analysis helped often clear connection structure function, particularly when correlation has convergently evolved. A causal easily seen teeth prey processing heterodontid sharks sparid fish: their robust molariform permit crushing hard mollusks echinoderms.
