摘要: OBJECTIVE: To relate the experience of staff at a health care facility specializing in management patients with aspiration lung abscess. METHODS: Diagnostic aspects and therapeutic results 252 consecutive cases abscess seen hospitalized between 1968 2004. RESULTS: Of patients, 209 were male, 43 female. The mean age was 41.4 years, 70.2% alcoholic. Cough, expectoration, fever overall poor over 97% patients. Chest pain reported by 64%, 30.2% presented digital clubbing, 82.5% had dental disease, 78.6% having lost consciousness least once, 67.5% foul smelling sputum. In 85.3% lesions located either posterior segments upper lobe or superior lower lobe, 96.8% unilateral. Concomitant pleural empyema 24 (9.5%) Mixed flora identified bronchopulmonary secretions 182 (72.2%). All initially treated antibiotics (mainly penicillin clindamycin), postural drainage performed 98.4% cases. Surgical procedures 52 (20.6%) (drainage 24, pulmonary resection 22 6). Cure obtained 242 (96.0%), 10 (4.0%) died. CONCLUSION: Lung occurred predominantly male adults presenting disease history loss (especially as result alcohol abuse). Most clinically drainage, although some surgical procedure required one-fifth study sample.
