摘要: The accumulation of platelets near the blood vessel wall or artificial surface is an important factor in cascade events responsible for coagulation and/or thrombosis. In small vessels and flow channels this phenomenon has been attributed to phase separation that creates a red cell (RBC)-poor layer wall. We hypothesized soluble drag-reducing polymers (DRP), which were previously shown lessen near-wall RBC depletion channels, may consequently reduce platelet excess. This study investigated effects DRP on lateral distribution platelet-sized fluorescent particles (diam. = 2 µm, 2.5 × 108/ml) glass square microchannel (width depth 100 µm). suspensions PBS mixed with driven through at rates 6–18 ml/h without added (10 ppm PEO, MW 4500 kDa). Microscopic visualization revealed elevated concentration region control samples all tested (between 2.4 ± 0.8 times 6 3.3 0.3 18 ml/h). addition minute virtually eliminated particle excess, effectively resulting their even across channel, suggesting potentially significant role managing mitigating
