摘要: We document the demographic and economic forces underlying changes in income inequality among single mother families over past three decades United States. Using decomposable measures of after-tax income-to-needs inequality, we examine withinand between-group based on education attainment, age, marital status, race, employment status. also conduct factor decompositions to quantify relative contributions earnings, transfers, other income, taxes inequality. Our results from March Current Population Survey show that rose nearly 30 percent between 1979 2005. The indicate most change is occurring within groups, part because large, offsetting population shares mean incomes. prominent rise labor-market latter which was induced by rising variance hourly wages.
