摘要: Seagrass habitats in the Arabian Gulf constitute a critical marine resource region, sustaining high primary production, harbouring biodiversity of associated plant and animal species, serving as important nursery grounds for penaeid shrimps, pearl oysters various other organisms. The extreme environmental conditions Gulf, with major seasonal variations water temperature salinity, are tolerated by only three opportunistic seagrass species (Halodule uninervis, Halophila stipulacea H. ovalis). Approximately 7,000 km2 habitat has been mapped to date, particularly extensive meadows coastal waters United Arab Emirates, Bahrain Qatar.
