摘要: The equilibrium magnetopause location on the dayside is determined by balance of pressure forces. In this paper we use a physics-based global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) to examine contributions different terms balance. We calculate total pressure, as well thermal and magnetic pressures just inside outside magnetopause. Our results show that (1) enhanced with increasing B-z in both northward southward interplanetary field (IMF). For IMF dominant while for when not small (B-z > 5 nT). larger solar wind dynamic further enhances near more effectively converted pressure; (2) significantly compared case. However, only reason well-known earthward displacement under conditions. reconnection dramatically decreases combination these two factors explains Earthward motion IMF. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
