摘要: Cortical thickness may be useful as a treatment response predictor in first-episode (FE) patients with schizophrenia, although this possibility has been scarcely assessed. In study we assessed the possible relation between cortical regions of interest selected because previously reported structural alterations schizophrenia and clinical cognitive changes after two years risperidone or clozapine 31 neuroleptic-naive FE (16 them treated 15 risperidone). Using last-observation-carried-forward (LOCF), larger improvement positive, negative total symptoms was predicted by amount baseline thinning right prefrontal cortex (pars orbitalis). After treatment, status reassessed 17 (11 on clozapine) who had not dropped out. Working memory reassessment associated greater left orbitalis), verbal pars triangularis. Significant but weak decrease from to follow-up observed comparison controls (left triangularis opercularis, caudal middle frontal areas). These results support positive predictive role for region regard schizophrenia.
