摘要: This thesis is about what I call the Dutch Golden Alkaloid Age between roughly 1850s and 1950s. follow historical trajectory of production distribution anti-febrifuge cinchona bark tree (Cinchona officinalis Lin.) its most powerful therapeutically applied alkaloid in empire—quinine, an antimalarial medicine. During this period, scientists, planters, traders, industrialists state officials Netherlands former colony Indies cooperated establishment a profitable exploitable transoceanic cinchona-quinine enterprise.
