摘要: During development the extracellular matrix (ECM) of central nervous system (CNS) facilitates proliferation, migration, and synaptogenesis. In mature due to changes in ECM it provides structural stability impedes synaptogensis. The perineuronal net (PN) is a specialized structure found primarily surrounding inhibitory interneurons where forms mesh-like around points synaptic contact. PN organizes space by binding multiple components bringing them into close proximity cell membrane, forming dense aggregates synapses. expressed late postnatal when final stages maturation critical periods are closing. Once fully envelopes synapses leads decreased plasticity increases CNS. Disruptions have been studied number disease states including epilepsy. Epilepsy one most common neurologic disorders characterized excessive neuronal activity which results recurrent spontaneous seizures. A shift delicate balance between excitation inhibition believed be underlying mechanisms epileptogenesis, brain undergoes numerous rearrangement axonal sprouting, require plasticity. Because PNs location cells its role limiting plasticity, an important candidate for altering progression this review, overview CNS will presented with special emphasis on potential roles epileptogenesis.
