Aspects of the Germination Ecology and Biomass Production of Eastern Gamagrass (Tripsacum dactyloides L.)

摘要: In eastern gamagrass (Tripsacum dactyloides) seeds, removal of the indurate cupule enclosing caryopsis resulted in relatively rapid and high levels germination regardless seed pretreatment across a wide range incubation temperatures during germination. Seeds incubated at room with cupules removed had 58%-86% germination, compared 10%-26% for seeds cupules. Enriched 5% CO2 either no effect on response under ambient CO2, or was enhanced as function treatment conditions source. Annual production estimated to be ca. 412/m2. Seed predation, almost entirely by small rodents, 95% annual crop. Peak aboveground green biomass standing crop 1,258 g/m2; this, only 67 g/m2 were allocated reproduction.
