摘要: Chemical defense in chrysomelid larvae (subtribe Chrysomelina and Phyllodectina) is reviewed. Most species secrete autogenous monoterpenes. The diversity of their secretion interpreted as a mechanism to reduce adaptation by predacious arthropods. consequences host plant shift the Salicacae are explored. Salicin from these plants used precursor for salicylaldehyde secreted many species. This offers several advantages. It provides with an inexpensive efficient defense. recovery glucose moiety salicin contributes significantly larval energy budget. Adults sequester eggs at concentrations which toxic ants. Owing this maternal provisioning, neonate produce hatching onwards, whereas other secreting monoterpenes not protected hatching. different considered be chemical mimicry reinforcing visual aposematic signals.
