摘要: An assessment of Sargassum in French Polynesia was done through the critical revision literature, type specimens, and specimens from localities. samples were newly collected, four morphotypes identified on basis morphological characters. Molecular analysis nuclear ITS2, chloroplastic partial rbcLS, mitochondrial cox3 markers generated two clades confirmed recent divergence suspected between closely related species. Although 18 different epithets have been attributed to Polynesian since 1828, only three species are considered valid this study. Most these transferred S. pacificum Bory, present Society Archipelago, while S. obtusifolium J. Agardh restricted Austral S. echinocarpum for Gambier Archipelagos. A identification key is provided, along with descriptions illustrations each polymorphic Moreover, study several regional collections underlined similar low specific diversity among populations southeastern Pacific. As a result study, we propose that S. bacciferum var. latiuscula Grunow, S. bisserula f. pacifica S. boraborense (Grunow) Setch., S. mangarevense S. sociale S. tahitense Grunow be as heterotypic synonyms S. pacificum. skottsbergii Sjostedt, S. hawaiiensis Doty et Newhouse, S. divaricatum chilensis chamberlainii lendigeroides further regarded S. obtusifolium.
