摘要: Increasing biological findings argue for the importance of cholesterol-24S-hydroxylase (CYP46A1) in cholesterol homeostasis cerebral structures. Based on similarity between brain and neural retina, aim current study was to evaluate expression CYP46A1 mammalian retina. RT-PCR analysis bovine samples revealed highest The retinal pigment epithelium expressed gene at a low level while ciliary body showed no expression. Immunohistochemical evaluation posterior pole rat retina that protein is specifically neurons, whereas cone-rods photoreceptors were negative staining. metabolite produced by CYP46A1, 24S-hydroxycholesterol, almost exclusively found concentration therein being more than 10-fold higher or body. results are consistent with our primary hypothesis: expresses cholesterol-24S-hydroxylase, metabolizing enzyme responsible removal neurons. link neurologic disorders, may be valuable candidate pathologies like age-related macular degeneration glaucomas, 24S-hydroxycholesterol involved onset degenerative processes these diseases.
