摘要: Abstract Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a common, chronic, and costly disease, its prevalence increasing in major industrialized countries. Diabetes has indeed high social impact mainly because of chronic complications. Objective The aim this study was to analyze the direct medical costs attributable determinants, as assessed diabetologic center (DC) Italy. Methods We conducted retrospective longitudinal cost care study; diabetic patients who visited between January 2001 August 2002 were randomly selected from database DC Portogruaro. Cost data collected included hospitalizations, visits, diagnostics, pharmacological therapies quantified analyzed perspective National Health Service (NHS). Results Two hundred ninety-nine extracted, with mean/patient follow up 476 days. Mean age 67.5 years males represented 67.2% sample. average annual health found be €1909.67 per patient; accounted for greatest proportion (52%), followed by hospitalization (28%) diagnostic exams (11%). Annual increased number related comorbidities, €1039 3141 patient participants none or more than two complications, respectively. Conclusion Long-term complications carry considerable on total cost. Our demonstrates that an increase comorbidities directly associated Strategies aimed at preventing onset are likely reduce long run, while improving patients' health.
