Type 2 diabetes patients educated by other patients perform at least as well as patients trained by professionals

摘要: Background Diabetes education can improve the quality of care people with diabetes, but many organizations are not equipped to manage its implementation. Involving diabetes in process overcome problem. Thus, we compared clinical, metabolic and psychological outcomes type 2 1 year after attending a structured programme implemented by professional educators versus same trained peers that also provided ongoing peer support. Methods People (25–75 years) were randomly assigned attend 4-week course delivered (control) or previously (peer). Peers received continuing support, including examples on how apply knowledge daily life via weekly cellular phone calls bimonthly face-to-face interviews small groups (ten patients), using questionnaire related patient's progress. Identical outcome data from both used for follow-up. Results Both had comparable positive effect indicators immediately following programme. Over year, peer-educated subjects lower A1C systolic blood pressure showed higher adherence physical activity better control hypoglycaemic episodes. Conclusion The non-inferiority mentioned improvements this group suggest volunteer support be successful.
