The Assessment Prevalence of Functional Constipation and Associated Factors in Adults: A Community-based Study from Kerman, Southeast, Iran (2011-2012)

摘要: Background : Chronic constipation is a common problem worldwide that negatively impacts quality of life. Because the effects psychological and cultural factors on function bowel tract vast variety ethnicities diet among Iranian people, present study describes occurrence its associated in Kerman, largest city Southeast Iran. Materials Methods This was cross-sectional conducted Iran from 2011 to 2012 included 2191 adults who were randomly selected interviewed face using validated questionnaire based Rome III criteria. Demographics, cigarette smoking, opium dependence, amount fiber consumption, physical activity assessed. Inclusion criteria ages 15 85 years old. Exclusion presence any metabolic and/or neuro-muscular disease caused constipation. All data analyzed with Stata11 software, confidence interval 95%. A p -value ≤0.05 chosen for statistical significance. Results Particiants had mean age 44.9 ± 16.2 years. There 57.42% female participants. The prevalance chronic estimated at 9.4% (7.7%-10.6%). Constipation more prevalent females, older individuals, those decreased activity, people anxious depressed, addicted individuals ( 0.2). Conclusion Although be lower than Western countries, new changes life style can cause an increase burden future.
