摘要: Abstract Currently less than 1% of the world’s seas are under any form protected area designation, thus, there is an important and immediate need for tools to identify delineate a network ecologically representative Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Although role seabirds in MPA identification importance MPAs seabird conservation have been discussed more decade, actual designation using data has lagged far behind. To synthesize current state knowledge regarding MPAs, this special issue presents 14 papers resulting from 1st World Seabird Conference, held Canada 2010. These present examples around world that show can play identification, design, implementation, monitoring MPAs. Approaches site consider single- versus multiple-species approaches, mapping marine biological “hotspots”, assessment overlap with risks threats. The delineation boundaries may further be refined information on foraging ranges, at-sea density estimates, ranking areas based priorities. Seabirds also used evaluate effectiveness as by changes patterns distribution abundance, population dynamics. date, very few established specifically benefit seabirds, however, many suggest should become growing trend spatial planning.
