摘要: Regulated harvest is a relatively new phenomenon for gray wolves (Canis lupus) in the contiguous United States. Most studies of wolf have been conducted northern latitudes where populations are large and human densities low. Insights from North America may not accurately describe lower 48 states. I assessed efficacy recently (2009, 2011–2014) reinstated Idaho, USA, to test whether it was selective certain characteristics individual wolves. predicted that males females would be harvested at similar rates, pups more common trap than rifle harvest, most trapping, effort decline over time. Additionally, black selected as trophies frequent harvest. Male were vulnerable females, trapping did comprise appear change Lastly, effectively targeted trophies. recommend continued monitoring further harvest-related predictions provide insights specific ecological systems conterminous © 2016 The Wildlife Society.
